This is a very fine erupting Platybelodon Tooth cap or Molar. It is from one of the ancient elephants known as a "Shovel Tusker", because it's lower tusks are flat and close together, forming a shovel. Platybelodon actually means "Flat-Tusk". The tusks are thought to be used for digging and scraping soft plant material from swampy areas, but another theory suggests it may have stripped bark off trees to eat. Closer related to Gomphotheres, than Mastodons. Nice solid complete tooth. The tooth has been stabilized, and has no repairs or restorations. Actual Specimen Pictured & Guaranteed Authentic.
